"The StoryTeller" is a nine-episode television series that combines live-action and puppetry, and retells various folk tales. The four-episode mini-series "The StoryTeller: Greek Myths" follows the same premise, but retells Greek myths. Both shows star John Hurt, and were created by the Jim Henson Company and TVS Television for HBO. The original "StoryTeller" debuted on NBC in 1987.

Jim Henson's Creature Shop created animatronics, puppets, and costumes for both human actors and puppets. The dog featured in "The Storyteller" was the first character that used the Henson Performance Control System, an integrated remote-controlled puppeteering system.
