One of many adaptations of Hugh Lofting's books from the '20s through the '50s, "Dr. Dolittle" is a film about a doctor who finds out that he can understand what animals are saying; and the animals find out that he understands. It was both produced and distributed by Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation.

Various animatronic animals, including a dog that was Dr. Dolittle's best friend, as well as rats, pigeons, guinea pigs, a dog and a tiger, were created to portray the doctor's patients in this Eddie Murphy comedy.
